Static IP outages

Overall, the fiber internet works okay, but paying extra for a public IP has been a hassle. By default, they give you a private IP using something called CGNAT. Recently, they sent out an update overnight that caused internet outages for people using static IPs. It took all day to reach someone by phone, and I only got help after messaging their Twitter account. A woman called me and connected me to support right away. Tech support is helpful, but only if you can actually reach them.

Works Well

I'm a new customer (Texas) and so far so good. Speed is always good and I've only noticed one brief outage lasting only a few minutes. I did purchase a static IP cause SSH sessions seemed to timeout too soon, likely because they provide an IP behind NAT by default and their gateway has low timeouts. Just a guess! Other than that smooth sailing.

Their network here in Texas is really great, 3 transit providers plus peering and IX connections. I mention this because I read some reviews before purchasing saying they had bad peering. This is not the case where I am in Central Texas.

If it were not for having to purchase a static IP to get things working normal, I would have given them a higher rating. Considering all their competitors offer public IPs and they are around the same pricing, this is perhaps the only drawback to Metronet.
